It’s been a busy few weeks of traveling lately.  I feel like just as soon as I’ve unpacked my bags & done the laundry, I’m packing up again.  And let me tell you, I am not a fan of packing!  It takes me FOREVER!  But I sure do love traveling!!

I am currently in Austin, Texas right now covering SXSW shows with my friend Michelle for the music blog Aurgasm.  She writes….I take the pictures.  If you’re a music lover like me, you should definitely head on over to Aurgasm to discover new artists, watch videos, and get free downloads from tons of awesome musicians.

Here are some photos from Day 1 at SXSW.  And go here to see Michelle’s more in depth recap.

Nas at Levi’s/FADER Fort

Damian Marley

Sofia Talvik at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary

The venue was actually a church!  Kinda weird & cool at the same time.

Basia Bulat at Emo Jr.’s

Playing an autoharp….pretty awesome!

Johnny Flynn at Latitude 30

Totally swooning over his boyish good looks and British accent!

Running on very little sleep right now, but there is just too much good music going on to have time to sleep!

As I mentioned in my previous post, last week I headed out to Vegas for the annual WPPI photography convention.  I had a great time checking out new products at the tradeshow; laughed, cried, & was inspired by Jonathan Canlas’ platform class; and met/hung out with lots of wonderful photographers!

Here’s a very abridged photo recap.

Thanks Fuji for letting us take a half dozen pics on your Instax cameras!  I really want one now!

On our way home, we stopped off somewhere along the I-15 to shoot some photos of each other…because it wouldn’t be a photo convention if we didn’t take any photos with our “real” cameras. 😉

Last week I went to Las Vegas for WPPI (more on that in another post).  While I was there, my friend Eugene invited me to take a tour of Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon…..from the sky!  Eugene flies helicopter tours for Maverick and he was kind enough to take me along on one of his tours.

This was my first time flying in a helicopter and I was slightly nervous at first.  But Eugene is a great pilot, and as soon as we got up in the air, the beautiful views quickly made me forget about any qualms I had.  I loved that parts of the Grand Canyon were sprinkled with snow, and it was so cool to fly back and see Las Vegas in the setting sun.  Did I mention that we even swooped down into the Grand Canyon and made a champagne stop? =P

Thanks, Eugene, for such a cool experience!

I picked up the new Kelly Moore bag at the WPPI trade show the day before and decided to test it out on our flight.  I must say that I absolutely love it!!  I’ve missed being able to conveniently carry my DSLR around with me when I’m out.  I used to put my Rebel XT in my purse and take it with me everywhere, but the 5D is a bit bigger & heavier, and not as easy to put in my purse.  I usually just forgo camera bags and hang my camera from my shoulder when I take it out.  So I’m really excited to have this new purse/camera bag!

The bag is really spacious and fits my 5D MK2, along with 3 lenses.  The front pockets can fit my wallet, notebook, chapstick, and all the other junk I like to bring with me.  And the side pocket fits my iPhone perfectly!  While I was on the helicopter, I had my bag on the ground in front of me and I loved that the bag stayed upright & open on its own, which made grabbing & switching lenses really easy.  And whenever we got in and out of the helicopter, it was really easy to slip the purse strap on & off over my head. Looking forward to using my bag “moore” in the future!

I met Jackie & Wes last summer at Lindsay & Ben’s wedding, and soon I’ll have the lovely honor of shooting their wedding!  For their engagement session it was a gorgeous day in LA, and we started out with some photos at Union Station.  Jackie also had a particular shot she had in mind under the canopy of a tree-lined street, so we headed out to Pasadena and amazingly found an empty street to make it happen!  Love how they turned out!

Also, a great big thanks to Lydia of Ever Ours for featuring Jackie & Wes’ engagement session.  Check out her blog for some wonderful wedding inspiration!

Say hello to Miss Connie M. Chung!  Although we only met recently, I feel like I’ve known this girl forever!  Maybe because we actually have known each other forever and didn’t even know it. 😉  She’s an awesome photographer & a great friend, and I’m so glad to know her!

The other day Connie and I got together to shoot some portraits of each other.  We literally trudged through mud, got attacked by bugs, and had to cross raging rapids for this shoot!  Ok, so it was more like a puddle of a stream….that I unfortunately managed to fall into.  BUT a little water and wet shoes would not stop us!  Here are a few of my fave shots of Connie.

We took a quick trip up to Mammoth with Jeremy’s family over the weekend.  It’s been a long time since we’ve had the chance to go up to Mammoth because we’ve all been so busy, so it was nice to take a little road trip up to hit the slopes!  I’m not really any good at boarding because we don’t get to go very often (plus I’m a big wuss), but the powder was pretty amazing and I’m finally starting to get the hang of carving!  Too bad there was a storm on day 2 so we couldn’t hit the slopes a second day.  If anyone wants to go up to Big Bear for a day with me, let me know!
Here are a few snaps from my iPhone using the Hipstamatic app.  The only iPhone apps I ever pay for are camera apps, and I’m really digging this one!

It was pretty cold so I was super bundled up!

Super low visibility on day 2 so we headed back to our condo to relax instead.

During our drive up, Jeremy thought he hit a bird.  We didn’t believe him so he told us to check the grill of the car when we stopped, but by the time we got to our condo it was dark and we had forgotten.  The next day, after we got back from boarding/skiing, I noticed this on the grill. =(

Now onto part two of Ngan & Donald’s wedding day!  We had 3+ hours to take portraits of them all around San Francisco.  It was amazing to have so much time with the bride & groom and their bridal party!  I absolutely loved it!  We went to the Japanese Tea Garden, Legion of Honor, and Palace of Fine Arts.  They closed out the evening with a Chinese banquet filled with lots of food & drinks, and some crazy singing & dancing!

I recently had the chance to fly up to San Francisco, accompanied by the wonderful Alice Hu, to capture Ngan & Donald’s wedding day!  They didn’t have your typical wedding ceremony with an officiant and the exchanging of vows and such.  Instead, they celebrated with traditional Chinese ceremonies & festivities.

As Ngan’s bridesmaids helped her finish getting ready, a caravan of cars carrying Donald & his groomsmen made their way up to Ngan’s house, a flurry of honking horns announcing their arrival.  As food and gifts wrapped in red poured out from the cars, the bridesmaids quickly ran out to stop the guys from entering the house.  Donald, with the help of his groomsmen, had to earn the right to see his bride.  From a window upstairs, the girls yelled orders & heckled the guys as they completed tasks to prove Donald was worthy of Ngan’s hand in marriage.  It was all quite hilarious to watch!

The morning festivities continued with Ngan & Donald serving tea to their families and receiving lots of money & gold jewelry!  Here’s a peek into the first part of Ngan & Donald’s wedding day.

And be sure to stay tuned for Part 2!
